11th Anniversary of the Rebuilding of
Long Beach Bar
On September 5th, I had the
privilege of celebrating the 11th Anniversary of the Rebuilding of Long Beach Bar with
some of the main movers of the project.
The day was started by boarding the Coyote (www.coyotesportfishing.com) at Orient by the
Sea Marina. Captain Jim House brought the guests out to the Lighthouse for some photo
opportunities. A beautiful clear blue-skied day greeted us with very calm waters. |

I
presented Merle Wiggin (the founder and initiator of the Rebuilding of Long Beach Bar) a
Harbour Lights sculpture of Long Beach Bar (a gift from Harbour Lights) depicting the
rebuilding on 9/5/1990. |
Bill
Malloy, President of Thames Dredge & Dock (owner of the crane and barge); Rich Saetta,
the general contractor who conceived the idea and built the Lighthouse in 3 pieces; and
Otto Schoenstein, the builder of the lantern room joined Merle and I onboard for the trip
to Bug Light. |
| We were
joined by Isabelle Wiggin (who did all the office work on the project) at the Orient by
the Sea restaurant where they all reminisced and marveled at the Harbour Light replica.
Everyone there thought the piece was great, super,
unique, captured the moment were some of the reactions of this
group. They all wanted to know where they could get one. I could have sold a dozen on the
spot. When we walked in the restaurant, an
8-year-old boy came immediately over to the table to ask to see the LH. I asked him if he
knew which one it was, and he immediately piped in Bug Light. His sister
immediately joined him and he asked if she could see it too. Wow
