Driving Directions for 1 Day of Lighthousing in Suffolk County
You'll
need a Suffolk County Map - Get a Hagstrom -
about $20.
Starting from
Uniondale (Nassau County), take the Meadowbrook Parkway south to Southern State Pkwy,
which becomes Sunrise Hwy, which continues east as Montauk Hwy to Montauk Lighthouse - about 45 miles
and 2 hours.
Montauk back to
Easthampton follow signs for Cedar Point Park - about 15 minutes and 1 1/2 mile walk to Cedar Island Lighthouse on beach. [See

Follow the signs for
Sag Harbor and take the ferry to
Shelter Island. On Shelter Island, head to Ram Island which is attached to SI. Don't
go onto Ram's Island, but find Cornelius Point where you can get the closest land view of Long Beach Bar ('Bug Light') - 30
minutes.
Now head to Shelter
Island Heights for the ferry to
Greenport - 15 minutes.
When in Greenport,
head to E Main St going north to 25 East. Make a right heading east to Orient Pt Ferry.
Park in long term parking and walk out about 1/2 mile to see Orient Pt Lighthouse ('Coffee Pot')
and Plum Island Lighthouse from the
beach - 45 minutes. [See also North Fork of

Now get back on
Route 25 heading west. As you pass the Sound View Inn, look for Horton Point Lighthouse sign. Follow
the signs to Lighthouse Road to see the light - 20 minutes. [See also North Fork of

Back track to Route
25, and head west. The road turns into Sound Ave and then 25A again. After about 30 miles,
look for it turning into 347/ Nesconset Highway. Follow it to Route 112, turn right, and
follow it to Pt Jefferson Ferry. Make a left on 25A, and head up the hill. Go about 3
miles to Old Town Rd. Make right. Road turns into Main St then Old Field Rd. Stay on Old
Field Rd about 4 miles until you reach the Old Field Lighthouse - 1 hour &
15 minutes.
Your on the last leg
now. Back track to 25A. Turn right (east), and follow the winding roads until it 25A
becomes Route 111. Stay on Route 111 until you get to Route 347. Turn right on 347 west,
and follow it until it turns into Veteran's Hwy (Route 454). Stay on Vets (stay on left
side) and merge onto Northern State Pky heading west - about 10 miles and 20 minutes.
Look for the exit to
Sagtikos Pky South. Go south to Southern State Parkway west - about 8 miles.
Get off Southern
State at Robert Moses Pky South and head for Robert Moses State Park as you cross the
bridge you should see the Fire Island
Lighthouse (should be blinking at you by now) - 5 miles, 15 minutes.
Now head back on
Robert Moses Pky to Southern State Pky west (New York) become Belt Pky to Verrazano, and
you're on your way home!
